Q:For those who might not know you, who are you and what do you do?

A:My name is Francis A Willey and I am an environmental film photographer, piano composer, and poet.

Q:Where in Alberta do you call home?


Q:How’d you get started as an artist?

A:At twelve years of age, my mother June Willey gave me my first cameras, a Kodak 104 Instamatic and a Polaroid land camera. My first exhibition was in 1994 of 35mm film photographs and handmade poetry books.

Q:What are you currently working on?

A:My 3rd photographic book MYTHOS, a second poetry collection, an international journal of art entitled UNBOUND MORPHEUM and Curatorial projects for SEITIES (publication and gallery) and Month of Photography (MOP) Denver.

Q:What stands out for you as one of your favourite career highlights so far?

A:Creating an Iconic image entitled BLINDNESS-That has stirred a political dialogue internationally. Exhibiting in Berlin and NYC. Placing 3rd place at the PX3 in Paris for my book ‘Ghost’ and 3rd for fine art at the International photographic awards in Los Angeles –The Lucies.

Q:What’s the favourite part of your job?

A:Bridging community in the photographic arts and expressing passions with an environmental sensibility---but mostly sharing inspiration to build a deeper compassion culture in the arts. Meeting inspiring artists worldwide.
